growing up [16 Sep 2009|09:19pm]
what is it to be a strong woman?
it's being comfortable in your own skin.
it's not changing yourself for your man unless he changes for you.
it's making sacrifices and living as an example to others.
it's facing your mistakes with humility and learning from them.
it's being passionate about something.
it's knowing the only things you have to prove are to yourself.

i love being a woman and i feel myself getting stronger every day.

been a while [06 Jun 2009|07:21pm]
I'm still here, I still read posts and such.
I haven't written a poem in while, but here is a little short i just came up with.

Valentine's Day

Red is for the blood rush
Pink is for the face blush

Sparkles for the starry night
Sugar makes it all just right

Red is for the fissured flesh
Pink is for the wound, fresh

Sparkles are the teary eyes
Sugar is to stall the cries

Hearts are what get blessed and broken

what i've been up to? [01 Nov 2008|11:40pm]
Sooo, as you should know by now I am in Florida. I have been working hard trying to figure out what I'm gonna do with myself. When I first got down here I looked a lot at what I wanted for myself in the future, and what steps I could take to make these goals more in reach. I know I like being outside, I know I like being active..so both of those criteria pretty much rule out a desk job (where I was previously and very unhappy). I like to feel like I'm making a difference, and manipulating information so it is presented effectively to patrons may feel meaningful to some, but it just wasn't providing the kind of fullfillment I need. So I quit my job of 2 years and left to Florida so I could clear my head and figure out the next step.
So here I am. I take my first run at the GRE (the test to get into graduate school) next Saturday (the 8th) and I start service in AmeriCorps in January. I will be working for the EPA as a volunteer at the Wekiwa River Basin Parks in Apopka, Fl. It's 40,000 acres of Floridian wilderness and I will be helping park biologists maintain it.
I'm still not sure what school I'm gonna go to, I've got a while before I start applying. I am still leaning towards anthropology as my major and I want my thesis to be in how past civilizations practiced resource management and how they shaped their environments to their benefit. I feel like it's right inline with the green movement and that it's definitely something I can use in the future.
So I guess that summarizes everything... I'm thinking of starting a seperate blog just for my AmeriCorps experience.. and I want to encourage everyone to seek out volunteer work, I am currently volunteering at the local library shelving books.. If you feel like something is missing in your life, try helping out the community. It feels good to give without getting anything in return. It's also good for the community, and when the community is flourishing, people are in a position to do better for themselves, and when people are doing better for themselves, the economy gets a boost. ;)

Your Result: Social Nerd

You're interested in things such as politics, psychology, child care, and peace. I wouldn't go so far as to call you a hippie, but some of you may be tree-huggers. You're the type of people who are interested in bettering the world. You're possible the least nerdy of them all; unless you participate in other activies that paled your nerdiness compared to your involvement in social activities. Whatever the case, we could still use more of you around. ^_^

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Citizen

21% Elegant, 31% Technological, 57% Historical, 44% Adventurous and 37% Playful!

You are the Citizen, the embodiment of steampunk’s everyday side. You realize that there is far more to a rich, living environment than adventurers and lunatic engineers. For every gentleman-scientist or airship fleet admiral there are a dozen or more “ordinary people” who prevent the genre from devolving into a mass of cardboard caricatures, and you take pride in exploring the great diversity of a steampunk world’s population. Your clothing could easily come from any social group or society, and you are equally liable to dress upper, middle, or working class. However, the unifying feature to your fashion sense is that it does not get carried away with “looking steampunk,” instead creating a person who could have just stepped out of the crowd in a novel. Some people may claim that your style is too close to historical accuracy to be steampunk, but fortunately you know better.

James Dean once said "Live fast, die young, have a beautiful looking corpse."

..i think modern day medical advances warrant a slight deviation of this postulation.

"Live fast, don't die, face aging, die inside."

the memory warehouse [26 Jan 2008|11:42pm]
I went to the bookstore today and i brought a journal with me and i just sat down and wrote. I love the bookstore, but i don't really read. I like books unopened. It's like being surrounded by people's thoughts, and you know you could open them and read them if you wanted, but you like not knowing what's inside. I like not knowing what's inside books... i like to look at the covers, read the titles, and imagine what the book is about. Being in a bookstore is like being in someone's mind. This evening I sat there, surrounded by all these thoughts, producing my own, and every now and then i'd hear a voice or see a figure pass between two shelves. A stranger, someone i may never meet, someone i may never know. If you need an escape, go to the bookstore, and make sure to step outside yourself.

tattoooooos [03 Jan 2008|09:40pm]
So about a month ago i got tat number two. I'm too lazy to upload a pic (check the myspace) but its a lion rampant. It's healing up now. I'm already thinkin about what i want number three to be... i love tats, they just take time (to heal) and money. I love them even more since i got this one, my first one is in a place where i don't get to see it... But this one, i watched it get made, i watched it scab over (unfortunately) and heal, and now i have black skin...its just..neat. Theres something very beautiful to me about the permanence of it, how it becomes a part of you. It's fascinating.
A lot of people think they will regret getting a tattoo when they are older- you know what i will regret? Not doing what i wanted when i had the chance. Yeah, its my body, yeah its forever...but we will all be rotting in the ground one day. You only live once. Might as well actually LIVE.

sort of a rant [12 Nov 2007|12:42pm]
DISCLAIMER: This is a rant, by reading further you are accepting the risk of getting offended and acknowledge this notice which means NO FLAMING me for my personal opinions.

after hearing of this and then reading this...i feel like i have to vent..

FACT: Thin, healthy people are more attractive than fat people. GET OVER IT. I don't care if a man has the greatest goddamn personality in the world, it's not my fault if I can't overlook his fat blubbery rolls.

People (in this country, for example) need to freakin learn to take care of themselves. I WILL turn down a guy based on looks alone because I KNOW a person's physique is something that CAN be helped. And when a person is in shape it shows that they are educated on their health, motivated, and active which are all qualities I am attracted to as opposed to ignorance, apathy and laziness.

Some people may feel they are above caring about their health and that makes them more fun. Well, please consider the costs to your health. And how fun is it really not to care when you can't keep up with your nieces or nephews or pets. Do you remember the days of tag and hide and go seek and king of the mountain? Can you imagine your fatass being able to do that now? You may say, yeah, but I was a kid then.. Well, you are still a human, and lets not forget that removed from all modern conveniences physically we would still be required to hunt down our own food and find safety and shelter (quickly) should a threat arise.

Being fit is not that hard. All it takes is getting a regular amount of exercise, avoiding excessive amounts saturated fats and simple sugars and portion control. McDonalds, Chipotle, Burger King, Soda etc are NOT components of a healthy diet and shouldn't be acceptable options for lunch every day... it's freaking common sense. (just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it ok, dumbasses)

I will not be more accepting of fat for the sake of someone's feelings because when you mistreat your body you pay for it in the long wrong (gallbladder disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, type 2 beetis, stroke, sleep apnea, cancer - to name a FEW). My advice to everyone- start exercising (you don't have to join a gym, running is free) and maybe pick up a nutrition book and brush up on the basics. Your body (and sig. other) will thank you.
